I couldn't NOT talk about it.

Considering the fact that his music is everywhere I turn right now. But before I say anything that may have me on a couple of thousand peoples hit list let me just make it clear to you that Cheryl Franki Selasie Amewusika Kosiwo Acolatse was also a huge MJ fan. Just not very recently...in fact after the turn of the century I wasn't at all worried about Michael Jackson, his music, or his effect on the music industry right now. Those were them N.E.R.D., Lil Bow Wow "Take You Home" days for me and as I grew older, MJ mattered less.

So I won't sit here and say that he changed my life...because he didn't. And I won't sit here and say that I was his biggest fan, because I suuuure as hell wasn't, and I also won't say that everytime I hear a Michael Jackson song I'm not going to change the channel because I am sick of his ass already and it hasn't even been 24 hours, but I will say that he was in fact the greatest entertainer to ever live.

The death of Michael Jackson coincides with all of our fears about our future on this planet, about our legacy, about our importance to the rules and the game of the universe and I think that's why some of us were so affected by the news. Michael Jackson has been an eternal fixture in our culture, whether we're giving him tributes or trying to find his nose, he had always been there. He was a very large part of our cultural importance to the planet and now he's dead.

It's like when you wake up one morning so sure you have a gallon of milk in your fridge for those frosted flakes you plan on destroying open up the fridge to find an empty bottle. You'd put all your faith in that idea of milk, you didn't think about anybody else in the house, or if you had even gone grocery shopping earlier, all that had mattered to you was the fact that you wanted cereal so clearly there had to be milk.

Michael Jackson lived through it all! All the technology changes, or the business changes in the industry, he has to be the only artist to fully utilize the technological revolution in the mass music production industry and in turn the only one to actually matter.

And now we're all holding that empty milk carton with a "Now what?" look on our faces.

Michael Jackson's death is so fucking terrifying because none of us know what the fuck is next, I mean what could possibly be next?

Times aren't changing like they used to. Our culture isn't developing like it used too, I may be the only one that feels this way but it seems like we're running out of options. Out of directions to steer this world. I mean at the rate we were going in the 90's I thought we'd have floating cars by now.

So if I think about it like that, I get all the tears and all the anguish over a man we've done nothing but mock and torment for the past 10 years.

Michael Jackson's death is the end of an era to us all, the end of our history. It kinda makes me feel...unimportant thinking about how insignificant my life will mean be to someone in the future, about how all my thoughts, my loves, my music, my tastes won't matter.

Thinking about how I won't exist anymore.

So R.I.P. Michael Jackson.

And welcome to whoever takes the crown next.

I hope my kids love you as much as I did MJ.
